The importance of branding and logo design. Staying relevant when design trends change.

As a designer in today's fast-paced world, staying relevant and up to date is critical for success. After researching and looking into logo/branding and design further it became even more apparent to me how businesses need these things to thrive. Logo design and brand identity play a crucial role in how you as a company are perceived by your target audience.

I looked into a few articles that discussed branding and some of the processes that go with it. One of the more important steps that I learned was building your brand's set of values, having a vision as well as a mission. After reading an article titled 7 reasons why a logo is important I was able to understand how companies can begin to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Creating a personality helps customers or stakeholders identify and connect with it. A good brand tells customers what a company stands for and what it promises to deliver. It also sets them apart from their competitors.

The Next article I read focused more on the process of creating a logo simplified into 12 steps. Overall the article mentioned how well-designed logos can help a business make a strong first impression, and it can also help customers remember or recall the brand. Some of the main takeaways that I  got from these steps were being simple, memorable, and easily recognizable.

Finally I wanted to take a dive into a question that I find to be something even the top brands are asking themselves every day. How do you know when it is time to rebrand or redesign your logo? In this particular article I read I found that although challenging to adapt and stay relevant, there are many strategies that businesses use to stay on top of what is trending.

One thing the article I read mentioned was focusing on timeless design elements. This means knowing what design elements are always in style, regardless of trends. For example, a simple, clean design is always in style (for example apple). Companies can also focus on typography, color, and imagery as many typefaces and color choices have been used throughout design and its history.

Another strategy I learned about is to be aware of the latest design trends, but to use them in a way that's consistent with the brand's identity. This could mean using a traditional classic feel, rather than a trendy, modern design element. This could be due to the target audience (if a brand is geared more towards an older demographic). However, the brand could still incorporate a classic design element in a way that feels fresh and modern.
